A Dreamy Engagement Session Full of History & Charm
When Garrison and Julia began planning their engagement session, they knew they wanted something timeless and full of character. A setting that reflected their love of art, history, and romance. We explored a few dreamy options: Book Tower in Detroit, Cranbrook House and Gardens, and the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA). What drew them in were the tall staircases, grand beams, and striking architecture, spaces that feel both intimate and majestic at once.
In the end, we decided to begin at the iconic DIA, soaking in the elegance and dramatic stonework. The grand architecture perfectly matched their vision. Every corner provided a stunning setting for their photos. From there, we made our way to the lush Cranbrook House and Gardens just in time for sunset. To make the day even sweeter, they brought along their adorable pup, Winnie, who added such a fun and personal touch to their photos.
As the sun dipped lower at Cranbrook, Julia turned to me and said it all felt like The Notebook. And honestly, I couldn’t agree more. Though part of me also felt swept into a Pride and Prejudice moment: the gardens, the glow, and the quiet glances between them.
Garrison and Julia are so effortlessly in love, it radiated through every shot, every laugh, and every tender moment we captured. This session wasn’t just about the stunning backdrops or perfect lighting; it was about telling their story, full of warmth, connection, and a shared sense of wonder.
We absolutely cannot wait to capture their wedding this September — it’s sure to be just as magical as their engagement session.
