Golden Hour, Golden Pup, Golden Love: Ryan & Payton’s Engagement Session at the Ford House
There’s something magical about spring in Michigan—when the air finally begins to soften, greenery returns, and golden sunsets stretch a little longer each day. For Ryan and Payton, it was the perfect season to capture their engagement. They envisioned an outdoor session full of nature, charm, and romance… and it delivered in every way.
We chose the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe for their shoot, and it turned out to be the ideal backdrop. With its stunning brick architecture, ivy-covered walls, and lush gardens, the estate offered exactly the timeless, garden-inspired aesthetic Payton had dreamed of—reminiscent of her love for places like Cranbrook House and Gardens.
To make things even more special, their golden retriever Millie joined in for the fun! Millie was full of energy (especially whenever she spotted geese nearby), but she brought so much joy and personality to the photos. She was the perfect addition to the session—and will soon be playing an even bigger role as the ring bearer in their July wedding!
Ryan and Payton were an absolute joy to photograph. Their chemistry is effortless and infectious—they were laughing, kissing, and wrapped up in each other the entire time. Honestly, I barely had to guide them. The love they share speaks louder than any pose could.
As the sun dipped low and bathed everything in that perfect golden light, we ended the session running through an open field, Millie bounding along beside them. It was a picture-perfect evening that captured not just their engagement, but the spirit of their relationship: joyful, natural, and full of love.
We are so excited to capture their wedding this summer—and yes, we’re counting down the days until we get to see Millie carry those rings down the aisle!
