A Rainy Beginning & a Golden Ending
Some love stories feel like they're straight out of a movie, and Willem and Skylyn's engagement session at Cranbrook Gardens was exactly that.
When we arrived, the skies had other plans. Soft rain began to fall, and for a moment, it seemed like the sunset Skylyn had been dreaming of might stay hidden behind the clouds. Thankfully, we came prepared with clear umbrellas, ready to embrace whatever Michigan weather decided to give us.
But instead of worrying about the drizzle, Willem and Skylyn simply leaned into it.
There was something incredibly romantic about the quiet gardens, the mist hanging in the air, and the gentle raindrops. It reminded me of The Notebook but also had the elegance of Pride and Prejudice.
Then, just as quickly as the rain had arrived, the clouds began to part.
The light transformed into the most breathtaking golden sunset, washing the gardens in warm, glowing hues. It was the kind of sunset photographers dream about and the kind couples hope for but can't plan. Skylyn had told me before the session that she was hoping for sunset photos, and wow did she get them. Every frame became more beautiful than the last, and the contrast between the rainy beginning and the glowing finale made the evening even more magical.
Sessions like this are the perfect reminder that some of the best moments happen when things don't go according to plan. If Willem and Skylyn had let the rain dampen their spirits, they would have missed one of the most unforgettable sunsets I've ever photographed.
Instead, they trusted the process, embraced every moment together, and were rewarded with an engagement gallery that feels both cinematic and deeply personal.
Willem and Skylyn, thank you for embracing every part of the evening. Your love made every moment beautiful, and I can't wait to celebrate with you on your wedding day!
